our cabin was a mile from here toward Quilcene

or the fountain of youth as it was known in Ponce de Leon's day

 

there are several places in Florida called the fountain of youth

so I googled it

 

 

it looks like he came to Charlotte Harbor 1513

 he could have come in Charlotte Harbor, gone up the Mayakka River

and be a few miles from the springs

very likely really

 



 

he had to travel a lot further than us
we are so lucky it is only 10 miles from home
next time J. for sure

 

I bet Mr. Leon wouldn't recognize it

Mexico came to Florida!

 

well one of my favorite people who lives in Mexico

came to visit us in Florida

 

yeah!  I felt so honored that she made the trip

 

 

 

first day meeting Lucy

 

 

my friend J. and Beth's friend J. (same name)

came the same month - what are the chances of that

Lucy is like - what - 2 Jac Jac's?

 

 

 she was such a good sport

 we made her eat at IHOP for E's birthday

good old American food

you can't see her, she is behind Beth's head across from William

right - I am not a good photographer

 

 

J. is though, she took this great photo of my girls

I love it!

we finally got to the beach

 - this proves it!

 

 

we didn't swim it seemed a little cool

we folks who live in the tropics are fussy....

 

 

we found a turtle on the beach

it was a land turtle

the turtle patrol people tell us it happens all the time

people who don't live here are not familiar with the gopher turtle

we carried it away from the beach and across the road

to what we hoped was safety

 

 

see those clouds, it had rained earlier and

rained the next day

- yes it happens in Florida too

so we did not get to go kayaking - next trip for sure

 

 

J's last night in Florida

we stayed near the airport as we had to be there at 5am

 

 

this is a photo of the natural mineral spring

that was behind our rather ordinary hotel

 

 

you could not swim in the spring (hello - alligators)

but they pumped the water into this pool over looking it

the water was not deep, you could sit on the bottom and it was up to your chin

 

 

and water was being pumped into this large circular room

where the water was deeper

 

 

it looked like they had cleaned it

and it was just filling back up

it was a shame - it would have been fun to swim in there too

so

not only did the motel have a natural mineral spring

it had a

 

 

and not just any Tiki bar

 

 

this one was set among mammoth trees

 

 

free drink each included in the room

and our lucky day





 

 they made us - yep - margaritas!

we took some chairs from the pool, set up at the edge of the pond

 drank and talked and laughed, as the sunset

 

 

 

 

 we sure hope you had as good a time visiting

as we did having you!!
